In the Appennino Umbro-Marchigiano region where our Monte
Valentino farm resides, the harmony of good, local red wine and
“Visciola” cherries results in a home-made traditional
drink called “Visner”, which is easy to find in many of
the family homes around Pietralunga
Doctor Giuseppe Polchi, the great grandfather to Nicola and the creative chemist of Pietralunga during the early nineties, developed a “Visner” recipe which enables the unique qualities and characteristics of red wine and the “Visciola”
cherries to fully reach their true potential.of each ingredient to reach fully, their true potential.
We proudly inherited this treasured recipe from Giuseppe, and now produce it as our main product here at Monte Valentino: a delicious liqueur which can be enjoyed as a dessert wine or simply
shared with friends. Since the recipe and techniques for making the “Visner” were intended to be for family-sized quantities, it perhaps goes
without saying that we adjusted the production process a bit. Great grand-dad Peppe, who made 10 bottles a year for his family, recommends that we stone the cherries one by one, and percolate the
red wine and “Visciola” mixture with a linen cloth. While we can’t follow those techniques to the letter, we still
keep our production small-scale and we want it to be like this. It is the only way we can assure its quality that is true to Peppe’svision.
The local version of “Visner” in Pietralunga differs from the one in the nearby Le Marche region, in terms of
ingredients and their proportions. To highlight these differences and convey the very high quality of our product, we named our special liqueur “Sollucchero,” an old Italian word meaning “rapture, sensation of great satisfaction, pleasure and delight.” When you taste our “Sollucchero,” we think you will agree with our special name.
